Bee Pollen

What is Bee Pollen?
Bee Pollen is, as the name suggests, a compound formed by honeybees as they forage for nectar and pollen from flowers. Bees scrape the pollen from the flowers and combine it with secretions from their stomach before compressing the granules into place on their legs. This pollen is then taken back to the hive to serve as a food source for larvae.
How is Bee Pollen collected from the bees?
Quite simply: beekeepers put little brushes at the mouth of the hive to knock off some of the pollen granules. These are then collected and gently air-dried to preserve nutritional value.
Why Bee Pollen works for us:

While we typically avoid overusing trendy marketing buzzwords (pun absolutely intended), bee pollen truly earns its reputation as a "superfood." This nutrient-packed powerhouse offers countless benefits, making it a standout ingredient in premium fish nutrition. Here’s why we think bee pollen is simply amazing:
Rich in Protein
Every granule of bee pollen is a protein-packed gem, containing between 22% and 35% protein, including all nine essential amino acids. It’s a complete protein source, ideal for supporting growth, repair, and overall vitality.
Packed with Vitamins and Minerals
Bee pollen delivers a broad spectrum of nutrients, including:
- B-complex vitamins for energy and metabolism
- Vitamins A, C, D and E for immune and cellular health
- Trace minerals like calcium, magnesium and iron to support bone structure, muscle function and oxygen transport
Strong Antioxidants
Loaded with antioxidants like flavonoids and carotenoids, bee pollen not only bolsters immunity but also naturally enhances fish coloration. These potent compounds help protect cells from oxidative stress, keeping fish vibrant and healthy.
High in Essential and Healthy Fats
Bee pollen contains abundant levels of essential fatty acids, including Omega-3 and Omega-6, which are vital for:
- Maintaining energy levels.
- Supporting brain and heart health.
- Enhancing the fatty acid profile in fish diets for better overall wellbeing.
Chock Full of Enzymes
Rich in enzymes and coenzymes, bee pollen aids digestion and boosts metabolic efficiency. These enzymes ensure that nutrients are absorbed effectively, optimizing the health benefits for your fish.
Bee pollen’s unique nutrient profile makes it a remarkable addition to any fish food, combining health, beauty, and vitality in every tiny granule. And while we may not be chasing the latest marketing
buzz, we’ll happily let the bees do the work of creating this extraordinary ingredient!

How we Process Bee Pollen:

Bee Pollen arrives at Niskai Aquatics pre-dried and in granule form. The only processing we're required to do is to grind it into a fine dust for better dispersal throughout our food ranges.
Sustainability and Ethics:

Bee Pollen collection can be incredibly ethical and sustainable when done properly. Here's a few ways that our beekeeping partners ensure that our Bee Pollen helps set us up for a greener, brighter tomorrow:
Ethical and Sustainable collection: Bee Pollen is collected using specialised traps, located at hive entrances, that gently remove a small portion of the pollen as bees return. They ensure that only a small fraction of pollen
is taken, ensuring Ample supply for the Hive. Pollen collection is an essential part of Hive health, and beekeepers work to ensure that their Bees are not overworked or deprived of nutrients.
Pollination and Local ecosystem support: Bees play a critical role in pollinating crops and natural ecosystems. Sustainable Pollen harvesting helps support biodiversity and food security by encouraging bees to continue pollinating throughout the season.
